Marrakech Destination Wedding Photography: A Stylish Celebration in Morocco
A Destination Wedding with Fashion Industry Roots
When fashion PR powerhouse Jane Lerman and high-end menswear designer Shane Fonner tied the knot, it was no surprise that their destination wedding in Marrakech, Morocco was an affair to remember. Jane, founder of LER PR and the BLACKSEA handbag line, and Shane, the creative mind behind Palmiers du Mal, brought together impeccable style, world travel, and personal warmth for a celebration that was as elevated as it was intimate. As destination wedding photographers, we were honored to capture moments from this spectacular multi-day event.
Capturing Wedding Photos in Marrakech
This wedding provided the perfect opportunity to document a couple whose style and vision aligned beautifully with the vibrant textures and colors of Marrakech. Though we were guests at the wedding, we couldn’t help but bring our cameras along to capture a few key moments. As photographers who specialize in destination weddings, we know that Marrakech offers endless opportunities for unforgettable images—from ornate architecture to golden desert light.
Getting Ready at La Mamounia
The wedding festivities began at La Mamounia, a legendary hotel located just outside the walls of the old Medina. Known for its intricate zellige tilework, lush gardens, and Moorish interiors, La Mamounia provided a glamorous backdrop for the couple’s getting ready photos and first look. The luxurious setting set the tone for the day and gave us the opportunity to document editorial-style portraits with a distinctly Moroccan flair.
A Few Tips for Marrakech Destination Weddings:
- Choose venues with a mix of indoor and outdoor options for versatility in your photos
- Consider the time of day for optimal lighting—the golden hour in Morocco is especially stunning
- Incorporate local elements like traditional Moroccan attire, lanterns, or tagine cuisine for an authentic experience
- Plan for at least one full day of photos beyond the wedding itself to capture local color and landscapes
Ceremony and Reception at a Private Villa
The ceremony and reception were held at a private mansion secured exclusively for the couple by Fabrice Orlando of COCOON Events. The estate, with its grand architecture and elegant garden spaces, created a perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony followed by a lavish dinner and dancing under the stars. The owner of the villa was so welcoming that he joined us for part of the celebration, creating a truly intimate and special experience.
A Multi-Day Destination Wedding Experience
Destination weddings often span several days, and Jane and Shane’s celebration was no exception. On the third day, guests were invited to a Moroccan-themed brunch at the modern and artistic Dar Sabra hotel, where the couple and their guests embraced traditional attire. The final day included a trip to a Berber village in the Atlas Mountains, where we were warmly welcomed into a local home for tea. These kinds of personal, immersive experiences are what make destination weddings in Morocco so memorable.
