Fiji Destination Wedding Photography at the Sofitel Fiji
There are moments in life that invite you to step outside your everyday and into something entirely unforgettable. My brother-in-law’s destination wedding in Fiji was one of those moments. While I don’t actively pursue destination weddings, when opportunities arise organically—especially through family and friends—I embrace them wholeheartedly. Being able to share my talent and passion for photography in such meaningful contexts, while exploring new places, is one of the greatest joys of my career.

Getting Ready Moments and Personal Touches
The bride—radiant and graceful—handled her own makeup with impressive skill. Marley Hammond did a wonderful job, keeping things simple, elegant, and true to herself. Marley is a professional makeup artist based on the Gold Coast, NSW, whose passion for her craft takes her across the globe. She’s always open to travel in pursuit of beauty and artistry. Contact her if you are looking for an Australian makeup artist for your destination wedding.
Hair was styled by Hannah Roadhouse, one of the bridesmaids, creating a relaxed yet polished island look.
From the Grace Loves Lace dress that fluttered perfectly in the ocean breeze to the unique accessories like the Shut the Front Door headpiece and Wood & Beau bow ties, every detail reflected the couple’s modern, stylish, and laid-back personalities.
A Personal Journey to the Islands
We probably wouldn’t have traveled to Fiji if it weren’t for this wedding. Tucked away in the heart of the South Pacific, Fiji is a paradise of turquoise waters, palm-lined beaches, and the warmest people you could hope to meet. It turned into a beautiful blend of work and vacation—a chance to create art, capture love, and experience a part of the world we otherwise may not have reached.
Ceremony and Reception Details
The ceremony took place on the beachfront, framed by palm trees and the glistening ocean. Premier Cane provided the floral arrangements—tropical, organic, and vibrant. The rings from Michael Hill were nestled inside a charming Goozeberry Hill ring box, and the couple exchanged vows with heartfelt emotion in front of their closest family and friends.
The reception was intimate and fun, highlighted by a stunning Taste Fiji doughnut tower cake and a beautifully designed guest book by Cartalia. There was plenty of laughter, dancing, and love—the kind of atmosphere you can only find when celebrating in paradise.
Wedding Venue: Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa
Located on Denarau Island, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa is a premier wedding venue in Fiji. It combines luxurious beachfront accommodation with French elegance and island hospitality. From stunning views of the Pacific Ocean to expansive tropical gardens, the resort provides the perfect backdrop for a destination wedding in Fiji.
The resort’s wedding team and planners, including Bula Bride, were fantastic to work with. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish, and the beautiful beachfront ceremony and reception setup offered incredible photo opportunities at every turn.
Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding in Fiji
- Choose a resort with experience: The Sofitel team made the process seamless. Resorts that cater to weddings often have packages, planners, and vendors on hand.
- Work with a local planner: Bula Bride was a fantastic resource. A local planner will have insider knowledge and access to the best vendors.
- Travel light but smart: Bring essentials and backup gear (especially for photography) but avoid overpacking. Island life is casual and simple.
- Time your ceremony well: Golden hour in Fiji is truly magical. Plan your timeline around the best light of the day.
- Embrace the culture: Fijian hospitality is unmatched. Take time to connect with locals and appreciate the traditions.
Why Destination Weddings Are Worth It
Though I may not brand myself as a destination wedding photographer, I can say with certainty that these experiences leave a lasting impact. They allow me to capture love in breathtaking settings and provide an excuse to discover new cultures, landscapes, and ways of celebrating.
Whether you’re planning a Fiji wedding or just dreaming of tying the knot somewhere far from home, know that destination weddings can be magical—especially when shared with those closest to you.
