City Hall Weddings: A New York Tradition

Ericka and Mike’s wedding began at New York City Hall, specifically at 141 Worth Street, home of the New York Marriage Bureau. A City Hall wedding is a popular choice for couples who want a more intimate and straightforward ceremony, and it holds a special place in the heart of wedding photographers. The simplicity of the event allows us to focus on capturing the emotions, connection, and love between the couple without the distractions of a larger, more elaborate affair.

When our photographer met Ericka and Mike outside of City Hall, we knew it was going to be a memorable day. The historic City Hall building is an iconic NYC landmark, and its neoclassical architecture, with columns and grand entryways, provides the perfect backdrop for wedding photos. We were honored to be the only ones in attendance for their ceremony, which was small but filled with joy and love. After they exchanged their vows inside the courthouse, the magic continued as we explored the area for more photos.

Capturing the Charm of a NYC Courthouse Wedding

Following the ceremony, we used the surrounding area of 141 Worth Street to capture a series of portraits that truly reflected the grandeur of a NYC courthouse wedding. The towering columns and intricate stonework of the government buildings create an elegant, timeless look that pairs beautifully with wedding photography. These historic elements provide a feeling of importance and significance, reflecting the monumental commitment the couple has made to each other.

From there, we took the couple to the Worth Street subway station for a series of unique and artistic wedding shots. The arches, tiles, and historic architecture of this old subway station provided a one-of-a-kind backdrop that perfectly complemented the urban, intimate vibe of the day. We always aim to incorporate unique NYC locations into our wedding photography, and this was one of our favorite stops of the day.

City Hall Park and Wall Street: Iconic NYC Wedding Locations

As the day unfolded, we ventured to City Hall Park, where the charming fountain and surrounding greenery added a soft, romantic touch to the couple’s wedding photos. The park is a hidden gem in the heart of the city, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The couple’s happiness radiated through these photos, and we were able to capture both candid and posed moments in this lovely, serene setting.

Our final stop before the reception was Wall Street, where we made a point to visit Tiffany’s, the iconic jewelry store where Ericka and Mike had purchased their wedding rings. The couple had seen similar photos from a previous wedding we shot and loved the idea of including Tiffany’s as a backdrop. We absolutely agree—it’s a beautiful and meaningful location for any couple who has purchased their wedding bands from such a famous jeweler. The contrast between the old-world charm of Wall Street and the modern elegance of Tiffany’s made for stunning photos, full of meaning and history.

Manhatta: A Stunning Wedding Reception Venue

After the NYC courthouse wedding photos, Ericka and Mike celebrated their wedding reception at Manhatta, one of the city’s most elegant and breathtaking venues. Located on the 60th floor of a building in the Financial District, Manhatta offers sweeping views of the New York City skyline, the East River, and beyond. The modern décor, combined with the floor-to-ceiling windows, creates an incredibly luxurious atmosphere for any wedding reception, and we were excited to capture the beauty of this venue.

Manhatta wedding photography is truly special because of its elevated sophistication and stunning views. The venue’s minimalist, yet elegant design allows the skyline to be the real star of the show, and we love capturing couples in front of these panoramic vistas. Ericka and Mike’s family portraits, with the city skyline in the background, were both striking and timeless, providing them with memories they will cherish forever.

The reception at Manhatta was filled with heartfelt moments, including speeches from the couple’s closest friends and family. We were able to capture candid shots of laughter and tears as Ericka and Mike celebrated with their loved ones. One of the highlights of the evening was the incredible menu served at the reception. Manhatta is renowned for its culinary excellence, and each dish was a work of art.

For us as wedding photographers, it’s important to capture not just the people, but also the details that make each wedding unique. The food, the décor, and the setting all tell the story of the day. Ericka and Mike’s wedding was no exception. The artistry of the dishes mirrored the beauty of the wedding itself, and we made sure to document the delicious fare for posterity, preserving not only the moments of the day but also the flavors and experiences.
