A Stunning River Café Brooklyn Wedding
There’s something undeniably romantic about a wedding with a view of the Manhattan skyline—and this River Café celebration delivered that and so much more. With an intimate guest list of 62 people, a gorgeous early summer day, and a couple that looked like they stepped out of a magazine, this wedding was a dream to photograph. From the moment we began shooting at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge to the golden hour portraits by the waterfront, every moment was thoughtful, stylish, and full of love.
We were especially excited about this wedding because it allowed us to spend extra time capturing Brooklyn’s unique scenery. The cobblestone streets, waterfront views, and architectural lines of the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO area added texture and drama to the gallery—and our team worked intentionally to document it all.
This was a wedding where everything just clicked: a beautiful couple, a picturesque setting, and a talented photography team. We’re incredibly proud of the results.

Venue: The River Cafe
Getting Ready at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge
Both partners got ready at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, a favorite among couples for its minimalist design, floor-to-ceiling windows, and proximity to the venue. The clean aesthetic of the rooms helped us create beautiful, natural-looking images that felt elevated but not overdone.
Our lead photographer captured the bride’s final getting-ready moments with her father and brother, while the second photographer documented the groom’s accessories and special moments with family. Both rooms were kept clean and clutter-free, which made a huge difference in the quality of the images. We always recommend tidying up before your photographers arrive so we can focus on what matters most—your moments, not your stuff.
Toward the end of prep, the bride shared two sweet first looks—one with her father and another with her brother. These small but emotional moments are always worth setting time aside for and offered a beautiful lead-in to the excitement of the day ahead.
First Look and Brooklyn Bridge Portraits
The first look took place in the late afternoon, just as the light began to soften. The couple’s connection was instantly clear—warm, playful, and completely at ease. Their comfort with each other translated beautifully into photos, making our job a joy.
Rather than rushing through portraits before the ceremony, we made the most of the 90-minute window between first look and family photos by exploring the area around The River Café. This is one of our favorite parts of shooting Brooklyn weddings—there’s just so much character packed into a few blocks.
We photographed the couple walking hand in hand through cobblestone streets, laughing beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, and pausing by the waterfront with the Manhattan skyline in the background. Some of our favorite images from the day are the ones filled with motion: walking, spinning, running, and simply enjoying each other’s company. These photos feel effortless and glamorous—editorial but full of personality.
Our goal is always to give couples something more than the standard portraits. We aim to create images that feel alive and true to the energy of the day. With this couple, that meant leaning into the beauty of the setting, the dynamic movement between them, and the natural emotion that unfolded.
Family Photos and Ceremony at The River Café
With no formal bridal party, the couple kept things simple, opting instead for a few special shots with close friends and immediate family. We began family photos around 4:30 PM with help from a pre-approved shot list, which allowed everything to run smoothly and efficiently.
The ceremony was held in The River Café’s beautiful garden space, which offers a private, green oasis right beneath the bridge. With the East River glittering in the background and soft florals framing the ceremony arch, the setting was intimate and uniquely New York.
As guests found their seats, our team photographed the ceremony setup and surrounding ambiance. The ceremony itself was heartfelt and relaxed, a true reflection of the couple’s personalities. With just the right mix of emotion and light-heartedness, it was one of those weddings that felt deeply personal from beginning to end.
Cocktail Hour
While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, we used that time to take extended family photos—a smart way to get important group shots without interrupting the flow of the reception. By assigning specific groups and letting us know who needed to be photographed ahead of time, the couple ensured no one was missed and that the process remained stress-free.
Meanwhile, our second shooter moved through the cocktail space, capturing photos of the food, drinks, and happy guests. With just over 60 people in attendance, we were able to photograph nearly everyone at least once, either candidly or in small posed groupings. This level of coverage is one of the benefits of a more intimate guest count—it allows us to capture a more complete visual story of the event.
Reception and Golden Hour by the Waterfront
Before dinner began, we brought the couple into the reception space for a few quick photos. The décor was elegant and understated, with soft lighting and seasonal floral touches that complemented the venue’s classic interior.
One of the best decisions made that day was scheduling a moment outside during golden hour. At around 8:05 PM, just before sunset, we stepped away from the reception for a short session by the water. The light was absolutely perfect—warm, soft, and golden—and gave us another opportunity to capture the Brooklyn Bridge and skyline in the background.
These sunset portraits were a highlight of the day and a perfect bookend to the earlier first look. If you’re planning a wedding and want that dreamy light in your gallery, we highly recommend budgeting even just 10–15 minutes for golden hour photos. You won’t regret it.
The rest of the evening was filled with dancing, laughter, and heartfelt moments between friends and family. The couple opted out of table photos, so our team focused on capturing the energy of the room through movement and candid shots. From toasts to cake cutting, every part of the evening was filled with genuine warmth.
